International Dinner
Tonight we will get together for a great international dinner. This will be our second since the fall season has started. I'm a firm believer that food is a key ingredient (no pun intended) to getting to know one another. Since one of our main goals at the International Fellowship is getting to know the cultures of everyone, I have made it a point to bring food into the picture.
Since a couple of years ago we have done dinners which highlighted certain cultures within our fellowship, having a night which would celebrate one culture. We've done many with the food, song, stories, history or jokes from a particular country.
As a result we've learned to appreciate each other and accept each other. We've also invited the various ambassadors from the countries represented and we've been surprised to have them arrive in their black cars with flags on the front - just for our dinner.
Tonight we're doing our monthly "Potluck" dinner. It's a new concept to most to bring a prepared meal, just enough for two. It's working out though! Tonight I am fixing Cuban Black Beans with Rice and Caribbean Jerk Chicken. (Except I don't use canned beans).
Since I love to cook this is a great excuse for me to try lots of great international dishes. Last month we had Vietnamese food, African food and I fixed some great Spaghetti. Everyone asked me for the recipe. I don't use packets anymore - I've been redeemed from that! My sauce is the real thing bubba.
I can't wait until tonight to taste all the stuff our friends are going to bring. Don't you wish you could be there?
